about

A fine blending of cultural sounds and experiments with familiar forms, vis-à-vis the wonders of internet collaboration and friendship. These tunes were developed across many years, many hours and many time zones. The melding of Americana traditions, heavy fuzz and tremolo, the propulsion of psych rock, and the timeless art of guitar interplay all converge to reveal new musical directions.

Tilted Trees formed as a result of an enduring transatlantic collaboration between Bordeaux (FR)-based Maxime Coste (Kubota, Castle Ruins) and Chicago (US)-based Graham Grochocinski (Fotosputnik, Slow Royals), who first met in a World War Two-era bunker-turned-recording studio in Nantes, France. Bonding over a shared love of authentic performance, gear experimentation, and ambient drones, Max & Graham combine their disparate sonic backgrounds to produce a dynamic sound driven by a soft melancholy.

Maxime Coste has a long history as both a recording and mix engineer in his hometown of Nantes, and has performed and recorded with bands like To Learn, The Star & Key Of The Indian Ocean, Kubota, Watertank, Robonom, Year of No Light, and Castle Ruins.

Graham Grochocinski has performed and recorded with Chicago krautrock outfit Fotosputnik, of which he is a co-founder. He is a member of lo-fi psych-folk duo Slow Royals while moonlighting as a mixing and mastering engineer.
